3 Best BBQ Gloves
Hey smokers and welcome to my post where we will check out my three best BBQ gloves for some heat resistant cooking this year. Now, if you are like me, one of the less enjoyable things about cooking on the old smoker is the burns on the fingers when you grab something you shouldn’t.
Now of course, many will tell you this is a badge of honor, however if you could do without them or simply want to make things a little easier, let’s have a look at some decent glove options to help you on your way…
My Three Recommended 3 Best BBQ Gloves
I will review these in more detail below however if you want to get some burn free cooking happening without all the carry-on, my recommended products are listed here for your convenience:
What are BBQ Gloves?
In the interests of keeping this nice and simple, BBQ gloves are an designed to protect your hands from extreme heat, hot coals and sharp tools whilst you are pitmastering to your best abilities.
To be honest, if it is just the pans, coals and tools you are worried about, then you can really use any type of gloves that have some heat resistance to them. If you are planning on handling the food with them as well however, then in the interests of food safety, a dedicated pair of gloves for grilling is probably a better choice.
I personally have a pair that I use if I am lifting meats etc. on their own but if I am just using them for the tools and pans, then a pair or rubber gripped gardening or workshop gloves are really worth a look as well.
You can get a pair of them here if you like too. However, if it the specialized option you are after, let’s have a look at some of the influences to consider.
What Should You Be Looking For?
Ok, so as we have discussed above, when it comes to gloves, as long as they can handle heat and are not easy to cut, then really any type will do. However again, if specialized gloves are you preference, here are some things to consider for your purchase:
- Material: The material affects heat resistance, flexibility, and durability. Common materials include silicone, leather, and Kevlar as they are generally heat and cut resistant. If you are using gloves with material uppers, you will need to ensure that they are machine washable as well.
- Heat Resistance: This may be stating the obvious but look for gloves with high heat resistance as this ensures protection while handling hot grills or smokers.
- Grip: Textured surfaces or rubberized pattern designs enhance grip, allowing for greater handling when dealing with tools and hot pans etc.
- Length: Longer gloves provide better forearm protection – especially if you are working with a charcoal smoker where little hot pieces can slip down inside. if this is the case, choose gloves that extend beyond the wrist for added safety.
- Ease of Cleaning: We all know BBQing can be a dirty business so it makes sense that gloves should be easy to clean. Machine-washable options or those that can be wiped clean are convenient for frequent use. Water-resistant properties are also beneficial here.
What do I use?
I use a woolen rubber griped pair of BBQ gloves in my pellet smoker. These are great for moving pans around and I also use them if I need to move meat around or to a tray for wrapping etc. My only downside of these would be that they are not suitable for manually shredding meat etc.
My Three Recommendations Broken Down
So, based on the information above and my own experience, I recommend the following options:
1. Oklahoma Joe’s® Disposable BBQ Gloves
I couldn’t make a list of suitable BBQ gloves without starting with the black silicon option that you see on all the YouTube Channels. They are made of food safe material which makes them really good for handling food with a cotton liner for the heat as well.
Pros
- Comes with 50 disposable gloves for plenty of use.
- Includes poly-cotton liners for enhanced heat protection.
- Food-safe materials ensure hands stay clean during food prep.
Cons
- Outer glove can tear or melt with excessive use.
- Limited reusability due to being primarily disposable.
- May not fit all hand sizes comfortably.
Why have I chosen them?
Apart from them making you look like a pro you mean? Well, they are made of food grade materials on the outer gloves and to assist in managing the heat side of things, the package includes poly-cotton liners for an extra layer of heat resistance.
There are 50 pairs in a package so you will get plenty of uses out of the one pack for plenty of cooking fun.
2. Comsmart BBQ Gloves
This next option is the closest to the type that I use that I could find. As above, they are great for use it hot situations with high heat resistance in any setting – I mean with mine, Ican lift heat pans straight out at high temps.
Pros
- Excellent heat resistance, handling up to 1472°F.
- Easy to clean and store, with hanging loops for convenience.
- Designed for a comfortable fit across different hand sizes.
Cons
- They are not great if they get wet
- The woolen base is not the best for handling raw meats etc.
Why have I chosen them?
These gloves offer impressive protection while grilling, baking or cooking with the ability to withstand high temperatures, regardless of the type of cooking you are doing. When it comes to smokers, their high wrist and rubber grip make them suitable for any need including handling hot charcoal to water pans and even hot covers.
They are not the best for extensive food handling I will say however there is not much else they cannot handle in the old fire pit!
3. RAPICCA BBQ Gloves
My final choice here offers the best of both worlds above with extreme heat resistance, a great grip and the ability to easily handle food both raw and cooked as well.
ros
- Exceptional heat resistance up to 932℉.
- Comfortable fit with a firm grip for handling foods.
- Easy to clean and maintain, avoiding common messes.
Cons
- Initial odor may require airing out.
Why have I chosen them?
As above, these gloves offer the best of both worlds with a food-grade neoprene rubber construction that can noth only handle heat, but water, oil and any other liquuid that BBQing can throw at us as well.
The long 14-inch sleeve adds an extra layer of protection for your arms if you work with charcoal as well as a great grip that make handling a breeze. All in all, this is a fantastic all purpose BBQ glove for beginners and experienced pitmasters alike.
