How I Review Products

Many of the products I review on this site – like BBQs, Meat Probes, Tools and anything else related to BBQs and Smoked Meat – are meant to be used for education and to provide a guide for you when you are looking to purchase. I understand that when it comes to BBQ, you need a product that you can rely on.

But I also understand that there are tons of choices out there.

Even something as seemingly simple as a simple set of BBQ pork rubs can be confusing to buy. It takes a long time to go through all of the products and figure out which one has all the features you need yet still fits your budget.

How I Choose My Products

I pride myself in choosing products based on my own experience as an amateur smoker of meats and things. Some
I have used, and some I have not. However I do know what features to look for and what has worked for me in the past.

When choosing products to review, or add to buying guides, I undertake the following:

  • Buyer reviews to see what complaints real users have
  • Forum threads where people discuss their favorite products and why
  • YouTube demo videos
  • Friends’ recommendations
  • All the features and how they stack up against other competitors
  • The manufacturer’s reputation
  • The warranty and return policy

And since we are aware that people have different needs and budgets, I always do my best to objectively lay out the benefits and drawbacks.

Hopefully then I have chosen products that can assist you in your own smoking endeavors.

That said, I would love to hear from anyone who has used any of these products and can add any information I may have missed.

Transparency

In my efforts to be 100% transparent, I want you to know that I don’t always personally test each product in my reviews – although as most of it is done whilst actually cooking, this is still often the case.

Even if I wanted to buy 30 different types of smoker or wireless temperature probes to try out, long-term testing wouldn’t be possible. By long-term testing, I mean seeing how the products hold up when used over an extended period of time.

So, again, I rely on my experience and on the reviews of other who have used them. Again, I would love to hear from you in regards to any review I have published.

How I Make Money

I fund this site via the use of affiliate links. That means that, if you buy one of the products I recommend after clicking my link, I will get a small percentage of that purchase as a commission (at no extra cost to you).

This helps finance the site so I can keep providing you with well-researched, valuable content – and more importantly, eat a lot of BBQ instead of getting a real job.

I will NEVER recommend a product just to make a quick buck though. I will only recommend products that, after researching extensively, I believe are truly valuable.
